Pic shows: Crab being brought in in baskets by woman
Nude statue of a fisher's wife at Krong Kep beach - Kep Province, Cambodia - covered up by local muslims.
The statue, known as the 'woman who waits for her man' or sometimes the 'mermaid with legs". The white concrete woman, with expose reasts and backside, sits just to the east of the Beach House on Kep's main beach.
Rumour has it that she was first designed with a more European-looking face as a comment on scantily clad French holidaymakers.
But local muslims have covered the woman in garments about the statue's nudity and drape her with garments.
Kep province is heavily muslim area whereas the rest of the country is largely buddhist.
A local shopkeeper said said "The statue is not meant to be sexual but a lucky charm to keep the crab fishermen safe. Kep is world famous for it crabs."
"Some muslim conservatives have covered it up because they see it as unseemly. But, don't worry, in a few days someone will have removed the clothing again."
