Pic shows: Elderly people early morning workouts in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Woman uses bench to stretch herself. Many people use the benches, trees and whatever else is around as makeshift gym equipment

Every morning starting as early as 5.a.m hundreds of OAPS flock to the Hoan Kiem (Lake of the Restored Sword) Lake in the centre of town.

Unlike their Western counterparts who might be having breakfast and watchingTV they come to keep fit in various ways.

Exercising daily into their 80's and even 90's the North Vietnamese partake in yoga, tai chi, dancing, badminton, weights and stretching exercises beside the picturesque
lake.

89 year old "Mr Kim" sporting dark glasses and a traditional North Vietnamese pith helmet said "I was a soldier in the war. I am used to keeping myself fit.

"I come very early most mornings. It is too hot to sleep anyway at this time of the year. I can't afford air conditioning.

"My back hurts a bit so I take it easy. I just do a few yoga stretching exercises on this bench to keep myself supple.

"It's also a lovely place to meet friends and share a cup of green tea and maybe packet of biscuits."
